During his tenure in the Rajya Sabha, he served as a member of several important committees, including the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, the Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution, and the Consultative Committee on Ministry of Rural Development.

In 2014, Gehlot was appointed as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in the Narendra Modi-led government. During his tenure as the minister, he initiated several welfare schemes for the marginalized sections of society, including the National Action Plan for the Drug Demand Reduction and the National Scholarship Portal. He also played a key role in the passage of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which aims to provide equal opportunities and protection of rights to people with disabilities.

Gehlot has also been actively involved in various social and cultural organizations. He is the founder of the Samajik Nyay Morcha, a social organization that works for the welfare of the socially disadvantaged sections of society. He has also served as the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Koli Samaj, a social organization that represents the interests of the Koli community.
